My 6 Favourite Breakfast Smoothies

Nowadays we are so busy with work, family, errands. It is challenging at times to be disciplined and always eat healthy. Breakfast is THE most important meal of the day. After a long overnight fast, our bodies require energy to start the day. Here are my six favourite breakfast smoothies.

1. BANANA PEANUT BUTTER SMOOTHIE

This banana peanut butter smoothie is creamy, smooth and gives a boost of energy. It is quick and easy to prepare.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 cup of unsweetened coconut milk
  • 1 frozen or fresh banana cut into chunks
  • 1/2 cup of plain greek yogurt
  • 2-3 tablespoons of peanut butter
  • 6 large ice cubes (added if a fresh banana is used instead of a frozen one)

DIRECTIONS

Add the ingredients in the order as listed above into a blender and blend until smooth. Pour the smoothie into a glass or mason jar and enjoy.

2. ORANGE MANGO BANANA SMOOTHIE

This orange, mango and banana smoothie is delicious, Vitamin C rich and gives a boost to the immune system.

INGREDIENTS

  • ½  cup of unsweetened coconut or almond milk
  • ½  frozen or fresh banana cut into chunks
  • 1 cup frozen or fresh mango chunks
  • 1 large peeled orange
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract

DIRECTIONS

Add the ingredients in the order as listed above into a blender and blend until smooth. Pour the smoothie into a glass or mason jar and enjoy.

3. GINGER PINEAPPLE SMOOTHIE

This ginger pineapple smoothie is delicious and refreshing. It also gives a boost to the immune system.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup of orange juice
  • ½  frozen banana
  • 1 cup frozen or fresh pineapple
  • 1 teaspoon flaxseed
  • ¼ cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 teaspoons fresh grated ginger

DIRECTIONS

Add the ingredients in the order as listed above into a blender and blend until smooth. Pour the smoothie into a glass or mason jar and enjoy.

4. BREAKFAST BERRY SMOOTHIE

This berry smoothie is a bit tart but delicious and gives a boost to the immune system.

INGREDIENTS

  • ½  cup frozen blueberries
  • 1/3 cup  frozen raspberries
  • ½ cup of unsweetened coconut or almond milk
  • ¼ cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons rolled oats
  • ¼ cup of almonds or your choice of raw nuts

DIRECTIONS

Add the ingredients in the order as listed above into a blender and blend until smooth. Pour the smoothie into a glass or mason jar and enjoy.

5. TOASTED COCONUT SMOOTHIE

This coconut smoothie is smooth and super delicious and the toasted coconut on top gives added texture.

INGREDIENTS

  • ¼ cup sweetened flaked coconut
  • 1large frozen banana
  • 1 cup of unsweetened coconut milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons flaxseed or chia seeds

DIRECTIONS

Heat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the ¼ cup coconut flakes on a baking sheet. Place in the oven and toast for 5-6 mins with frequent turning until toasted and golden. Please note, coconut flakes can burn easily so pay close attention.

Add most of the toasted coconut and the ingredients in the order as listed above into a blender and blend until smooth. Pour the smoothie into a glass or mason jar, sprinkle the remaining toasted coconut for garnishing and enjoy.

6. COCOA BANANA SMOOTHIE

This cocoa banana smoothie is rich, smooth and delicious.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup of unsweetened coconut or almond milk
  • 1 frozen large banana
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons almond or peanut butter
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon

DIRECTIONS

Add the ingredients in the order as listed above into a blender and blend until smooth. Pour the smoothie into a glass or mason jar and enjoy.
